I was too concentrated trying to choose a class of students where I could apply my project task. But all of a sudden, came the idea of actually applying this with a group of teachers at the institute I work at.
I believe creating a blog with certainly help us be more connected. It will serve as a media we will use to share links, activities and suggestions at any time.
TEacher meetings at the work place can sometimes be very limited. We hardly ever have time for this reunions, and teachers feel they "have to be there" because it is part of the job.
But ... education, sharing knowledge, being involved, requires more than just attending meetings. Perhaps opening a blog with my colleagues could help us get closer and find a space to share, comment and learn from each other.
Why not? Well... This may not be new for most of you... but it certainly is for me. Now I am going to advertise my new blog and invite people to join it. We'll see what happens...
Hello Carolina!
ReplyDeleteIt is an excellent idea to apply technology with the group of teachers. I am going to do this also at my institute, and it will be within the framework of the methodical trainings which are regularly held by the head of our university.
I will prepare the series of the presentations and arrange everything for better understanding of the methods I would like to present.
Then it will be nice if we write a methodical article on using technology while teaching English and ellaborate some guide book concerning using Internet and discussing matters online. And these materials will surely help our assitants and the teachers who work with us, as it is very important to share the experience and see the results and impressions of those who learnt from you.
best regards
Perizat
Hi Carol
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peri, that this is a nice idea. Many of these new tools can be used to make our lives better as teachers beyond working with students.
For example, I've heard that email is the most overused tool out there. People use it for lists, disseminating information, answering questions etc., but it may not always be the best tool for your goal. Websites, blogs, wikis, all offer options that may help us reach the goal better.
Just like if we are we are trying to mount a new window, we wouldn't want to have a hammer as our only tool. We would want a screwdriver, a saw, a glazing knife, etc. to make the job easier. The right tool for the right job.
Anyway, I like the idea of trying new tools for new tasks. I'll be interested how it works out for you.
Robert
Hi Carol..
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my blog..^^
I agree with Peri and Robert...your idea about sharing knowledge or information with the other colleagues as a group of teachers is a good idea..since we promote the blog as a way of teaching to our students..we also can use this technology within our own teachers group..
Actually.. I have invited one of my colleague to make a blog too..She is one of the participants who got this scholarship too but in different subject..it's a good way to share on the blog because we only meet twice a week..it's a good way to share what she has learned in her subject and vice versa..
Can't wait to read your next post about the progress you have made with your group..
Dhika
Hi Carolina,
ReplyDeleteIt is a great thing to have a blog with other teachers because it may encourage them to create blogs with their students after you introduce them to the idea. It also helps them experiment with the activity before they try it with their students - just the way we are doing.
However, the only problem with teachers sometimes is that they fear technology and claim it is a waste of time.
Good luck with your work.
Nada
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peri, Dhika and Robert that your idea about sharing experiences with other teachers is just what we really need. We can and should use blogs to teach our colleagues.
I have invited some of my colleague to make a blog too. They agreed that it’s very interesting, but time consuming and only three of them agreed to follow me at the moment.
It should be noted that teachers usually teach their students by means of the methods, which they were taught themselves, and as most of my colleagues were taught by the grammar-translation method, it’s difficult to pursue them to use communicative approach and technology.
But still I’d like to follow your example and teach both my students and colleagues, as technology gives us the opportunity to enter some other dimension, offers us new perspectives and brings the whole world into our classroom.
Your project is of great importance for me. Do teachers easily agree to change their methods and use technology in your institution/country?
Irina
Dear Perizat, Irina, Dhika and Nada,
ReplyDeleteWowww!!! It feels good to read your comments and good words of enthusiasm with my blog project.
Yes, I have opened it already, and of course, only some teachers have joint me until now. But I know that this will be a great way of communicating and posting fun ideas and sources so we can share it with other colleagues. I am going to observe and see the influence among the ones that have already suscribed. I know sharing this web site on delicious.com for bookmarks will make an impact!! Can't wait!!
